Part 2: The Letter That Changed Everything
A week after moving into our home, I decided to clean out the garage. It was filled with old furniture and unused items, and I wanted to create a fresh start for our new life.
While moving an old couch, I discovered an envelope hidden between the cushions.
At first, I assumed it was something Daniel had forgotten. But when I opened it, my heart skipped.
Inside was a short message:
“If you are reading this, you should know that he is not telling you everything about his past.”
The words immediately created doubt. Could there be something I didn’t know? Something important he had chosen not to share?
But as I looked closer, something didn’t feel right.
The envelope appeared aged, but the paper inside looked new. When I touched the ink, it smudged slightly under my fingers. That was unusual—ink from years ago doesn’t behave that way.
Then I noticed something else: the couch had been covered in dust and cobwebs, but the envelope was clean.
That’s when I realized the truth.
This letter hadn’t been there for years.
Someone had placed it there recently.
My thoughts raced. Who would do this? And why?
There was a phone number at the bottom of the letter. I knew I had two choices: ignore it and move on, or confront the situation directly.
I chose clarity.
