One of the officers stepped forward and spoke gently.

Deeply moved, she reached out to people who had known her husband—men who had served with him. Together, they decided to recognize Leo’s act of kindness.

The officers explained that what Leo did went beyond helping a friend. He showed courage, loyalty, and compassion—values that truly matter.

They presented him with a symbolic token of recognition and shared something unexpected:

They had created a scholarship fund in his name, to support his future education.

The room fell silent.

Leo was overwhelmed. So was I.

In that moment, it became clear that what seemed like a simple act had a much deeper impact. It wasn’t just about carrying someone physically—it was about standing by someone when it mattered most.

After everything, when we stepped outside, Sam was waiting.

The two boys smiled at each other, as if nothing extraordinary had happened.

As I stood there watching them laugh, I realized something important:
