It started on an ordinary day.
I was decorating a simple cake for Leo’s graduation when he walked into the kitchen, pale and shaken, holding his phone like it carried something heavy.
He had taken a DNA test.
At first, I was surprised—but not upset. He deserved answers. What I didn’t expect was what he had found.
Not his father… but someone connected to him. Andrew’s sister, Gwen.
That alone was surprising. I had only heard vague mentions of her years ago, never meeting her, never knowing if she was truly part of Andrew’s life. But Leo had reached out, and she responded with a message that changed everything:
“Andrew didn’t leave her.”
Those four words broke something open inside me.
According to Gwen, Andrew hadn’t abandoned us. He had tried to stay. He had begged to come back, to explain, to be present. But his mother had intervened. She forced the family to move away early and refused to let him see me.
Worse than that—she intercepted his letters.
He had written again and again. Letters filled with apologies, promises, confusion, and love. Some were hidden. Some were destroyed. None of them reached me.
And on the other side, he was told that I hated him. That I didn’t want him in my life.
