During a bilateral meeting earlier on June 15, President Trump spoke about recent international developments, mentioning that he had held discussions with both President Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He indicated that, following other ongoing global issues, attention would increasingly return to the conflict in Ukraine and related diplomatic efforts.

The summit agenda itself included a wide range of topics beyond Ukraine, with leaders focusing on global stability, energy markets, and tensions in the Middle East. Key discussions centered on ongoing instability in the region, as well as the impact of conflict on global oil prices and international shipping routes.

Representatives from countries such as Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates were expected to participate in discussions related to Middle Eastern diplomacy. These talks aimed to address regional conflicts and explore potential pathways toward reducing tensions and improving humanitarian and economic conditions.

At the same time, the summit took place against a backdrop of complex relations between the United States and several European allies. President Trump has reportedly had disagreements with some leaders over recent U.S. foreign policy decisions, including military actions in the Middle East. These policy differences have contributed to a more cautious diplomatic atmosphere during some of the summit interactions.

Despite these tensions, leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation on shared global challenges. In a joint statement issued prior to the summit, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Canada welcomed what they described as diplomatic progress involving the United States, Iran, and international mediators. The statement framed these developments as a potential opportunity to restore regional stability and support the global economy.

The leaders stressed that continued negotiations would be essential to ensure that any agreements reached are implemented effectively and in full. They also highlighted the importance of maintaining open international trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered a critical passage for global energy supplies.
