Ingredients

For the noodles

  • 9 lasagna noodles (or enough for 3 layers)
  • Salt for boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (to prevent sticking)

For the meat sauce

  • 500 g ground beef (or 250 g beef + 250 g sausage) (1.1 lb)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (70 g)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (9 g)
  • 480 ml marinara or tomato sauce (2 cups / 16 fl oz)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste (30 g)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or ½ tsp oregano + ½ tsp basil)
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)

For the cheese layers

  • 450 g ricotta cheese (2 cups / 16 oz) (or cottage cheese)
  • 1 large egg
  • 200 g shredded mozzarella cheese (2 cups / 7 oz)
  • 50 g grated Parmesan cheese (½ cup / 1.8 oz)
