Part 2: The Secret Daniel Never Knew
The house felt empty without Laura.
Her absence echoed through every room. I paused outside her bedroom for a moment before packing my belongings. I took only the essentials—clothes, documents, and a photograph of Laura when she was a child sitting on my shoulders at the beach.
Everything else stayed behind.
I placed the house keys on the kitchen table and quietly walked out.
That night, I stayed in a small hostel near the train station. The room was simple, but it gave me space to think.
Daniel believed he had removed me from his life.
What he didn’t know was that I had been a silent partner in his company from the very beginning.
Years earlier, when Daniel first dreamed of launching his business, no bank believed in him. Investors rejected his proposals, and he was drowning in debt.
Laura came to me with tears in her eyes.
“Dad,” she said, “he just needs someone to believe in him.”
So I did.
I invested my savings to help Daniel start the company. However, unlike Daniel, I never cared about public recognition. I stayed in the background while he became the face of the business.
But the contracts were clear.
Legally and officially, I owned eighty-four percent of the company.
Daniel simply never paid attention to the details.
The morning after leaving the house, I called my lawyer.
“I think it’s time we review the company structure,” I told him.
A week later, Daniel received a phone call from the law firm.
The message was simple and direct:
The majority shareholder—Antonio García—needed to approve the company’s restructuring.
Daniel suddenly realized something he had never expected.
The quiet man he had pushed out of his house was actually the owner of the empire he thought belonged to him.
