Part 2: The Moment Doubt Took Hold

The procedure itself was supposed to be straightforward.

I was given light sedation—enough to relax me, but not fully unconscious. My body felt heavy, but my mind remained aware. I could hear voices around me, though I couldn’t respond.

That’s when I heard something that didn’t make sense.

A quiet conversation. Mentions of something being prepared. Instructions that seemed unnecessary for a routine procedure. And one sentence that stayed with me:

“He shouldn’t know.”

My heart raced, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t speak. I could only listen.

Later, in recovery, I saw something that confirmed my unease. Through a partially open door, I noticed a nurse handing Nicole an envelope. She opened it, and her reaction was immediate—shock, followed by a kind of relief I couldn’t explain.

Then the doctor joined her. Their interaction felt familiar. Too familiar.

At that moment, a realization began to form: something important was being kept from me.

I didn’t confront her right away. Instead, I chose to step back and observe. I reached out to someone I trusted—my business partner, Brandon—and shared what I had experienced.

He listened carefully and agreed: the situation deserved a closer look.
