Part 2: Uncovering the Truth
Realizing the importance of what we had found, I gathered all seven grandchildren in the living room. Together, we carefully examined the contents of the box.
The evidence raised more questions than answers.
Why would their parents hide such a large amount of money? Why were only the children’s documents included? And what was the purpose of the marked routes?
As we searched further in the basement, we discovered an old folder filled with unpaid bills, financial statements, and urgent notices. It became clear that Daniel and Laura had been facing serious financial difficulties—far worse than I had ever known.
At the bottom of the folder was a handwritten note with bank account details and a simple instruction: “Don’t touch anything else.”
The next day, I went to the bank to investigate. After providing the necessary information, I was told something shocking:
The account was still active.
There had been recent activity.
When I returned home and shared the news, the room filled with emotion—confusion, disbelief, and growing realization. Some of the children began to suspect the unthinkable: that their parents might still be alive.
It was difficult to accept, but the evidence pointed in one direction.
We needed answers.
