Fifteen years later, just as life had found its rhythm, something unexpected happened. Edwin returned.
He appeared at Sarah’s door one quiet afternoon, looking older and worn by time. His presence brought a flood of emotions—shock, confusion, and unresolved questions. Instead of offering immediate explanations, he handed Sarah a sealed envelope and asked her to read it privately.
Inside was a letter dated from fifteen years earlier.
In it, Edwin explained the situation he had faced after his wife’s passing. Alongside his grief, he discovered serious financial problems—hidden debts, unstable accounts, and overwhelming obligations. Despite his efforts, the situation continued to worsen. He feared losing everything, including a stable environment for his daughters.
Believing he had no other option, Edwin made a difficult decision. He left his children with Sarah, trusting that she could provide them with safety and stability. He thought his absence would protect them from the uncertainty he was facing.
Along with the letter were official documents—recent ones. They showed that Edwin had spent years resolving those financial issues. Debts were cleared, assets recovered, and everything had been legally transferred to his daughters. It was his way of making things right, even if it could never fully repair the past.
When Sarah confronted him, Edwin did not defend his actions. He acknowledged the pain he caused and expressed sincere regret. For the first time, he apologized—not with excuses, but with honesty.
