Part 2: The Unexpected News
Then came an ordinary Tuesday that changed everything.
I sat in a doctor’s office, staring at the soft glow of an ultrasound screen. It was supposed to be a routine visit—nothing extraordinary, nothing life-changing.
But the room grew quiet.
The doctor leaned closer to the screen, his expression shifting from focused… to stunned.
Then he said softly, almost in disbelief,
“I hear five heartbeats.”
For a moment, I thought he was joking.
I laughed, even as tears filled my eyes. “You’re kidding, right?”
But he wasn’t.
Five tiny lives.
Five fragile chances.
What should have been pure joy came mixed with overwhelming fear. I knew how quickly happiness could turn into heartbreak. Every day of that pregnancy felt uncertain. Every appointment carried questions I was afraid to ask.
At night, I would sit quietly, resting my hand on my growing belly, whispering simple prayers into the silence:
“Please… just let them live.”
