A black sedan pulled up to the curb.

Gregory’s confidence collapsed in an instant.

Madeline turned slightly toward him.
“You’ll understand soon enough.”

Inside the car, William’s voice lowered.
“I could have ended him the moment I found out.”
“I know,” she said. “But I needed the truth to come out on its own.”
