Part 1: When Small Signs Are Easy to Ignore

At first, everything seemed normal.

Daniel came into our lives when my daughter Lily was still very young. He appeared kind, patient, and caring. He helped with daily routines, made her laugh, and quickly became someone we trusted. For a long time, I believed I had found stability and support.

But over time, small things began to feel… off.

Lily would sometimes come out of the bathroom with redness on her shoulder. When I asked, there was always a simple explanation—sensitive skin, soap irritation, or just a minor accident. Daniel always reassured me that everything was under control.

I wanted to believe him.

Looking back, I realize those moments were not random. They were early warning signs. But like many people, I convinced myself that I was overthinking. It’s often easier to accept a comfortable explanation than to question someone you trust.

Lily also started behaving differently. She became quieter, more cautious, and sometimes tried to cover her shoulder with clothing or towels. At the time, I didn’t fully understand why.

Now I do.
