Part 1: A Childhood Shaped by Quiet Strength

I was left on the front steps of a small church as a baby, wrapped in a yellow blanket, with one corner dragging in the wind.

My father, Pastor Josh, never told that story as something tragic. He told it like it was the beginning of something beautiful.

“You were placed where love would find you first,” he always said.

And he made sure that love followed me every single day after.

He became my father long before the legal papers made it official. He packed my lunches, helped me with homework, and even learned how to braid my hair by watching tutorials and reading books. He never missed a school event—not one. Whether it was a small choir performance or a big ceremony, he sat in the audience like it was the most important event in the world.

But school was a different story.

By middle school, I had labels I never asked for:
“Miss Perfect.”
“Goody Claire.”
“The pastor’s daughter.”

At first, I tried to ignore it. I smiled, stayed quiet, and walked away—just like my father taught me.

“People speak from what they know,” he would say gently. “You respond from what you’ve been given.”

It sounded wise at home. But in crowded hallways filled with laughter and whispers, it felt heavy.

Some days, I carried those words home like invisible weight. And every time, my father noticed.

He never dismissed my feelings. He would sit with me at the kitchen table, listen carefully, and remind me:

“Don’t let others harden your heart just because theirs is still learning.”

Still, there were moments when I wondered how long I could keep being strong.
