Part 1: The Invitation That Reopened Old Wounds
Rebecca never expected to hear from her ex-husband again in a way that would matter.
Four years after their painful divorce, a cream-colored envelope arrived at her door. Elegant, expensive, and deliberately impersonal, it carried a message she never wanted to read: an invitation to Garrett’s wedding.
He was marrying Tessa—the woman he had left her for.
Inside the envelope was a handwritten note, polite and detached. He wrote that there were “no hard feelings” and suggested that their children should see both parents moving forward in life.
But Rebecca knew better.
There were plenty of hard feelings.
She remembered the years that followed their separation—raising twins alone on a limited income, working multiple jobs, hiding financial struggles, and trying to rebuild a life while Garrett moved on without consequence. Even worse were the constant reminders from his mother, Patricia, who blamed Rebecca for the collapse of the marriage.
The worst part wasn’t the invitation itself.
It was the date.
The wedding was scheduled for June 15—the anniversary of Rebecca and Garrett’s own wedding day.
That detail made everything clear: this wasn’t just a ceremony. It was a statement.
For a long time, she sat with the invitation, torn between humiliation and anger. Then, something shifted.
That same day, she received an email from Julian, a man she had quietly been dating for over a year—someone she had never fully introduced to her past life out of fear that Garrett would use it against her.
Shortly after, a confidential package arrived that changed everything.
Inside were financial documents, legal records, and hidden evidence showing that Garrett had concealed assets during their divorce. There were shell companies, undeclared income, and proof that he had manipulated financial disclosures.
At the bottom was a message from a former business partner admitting he had stayed silent too long—and that reopening the case was now possible.
Rebecca was no longer just invited to a wedding.
She was being handed the truth.
