Part 1: The Strange Discovery in a Familiar Space
It started with something small—almost easy to ignore.
A dark, irregular patch appeared in the corner of the bathroom, right where the tiles met the floor. At first glance, it could have been anything: a shadow, a stain, or simply part of the natural wear of a damp space. But once it was noticed, it became impossible to unsee.
My girlfriend was the first to react. She stopped in the doorway, staring at it with a quiet confusion that quickly turned into concern.
“Have you seen that before?” she asked.
I hadn’t. Or at least, I didn’t think I had. And that uncertainty alone was enough to make it feel strange.
We stood there trying to make sense of it. Mold? Dirt? Water damage? Something spilled and forgotten? Each possibility sounded plausible, but none felt fully convincing. The more we looked, the more it seemed to take on importance—not because it changed, but because our attention kept returning to it.
The bathroom, once just a normal part of the apartment, suddenly felt unfamiliar.
