Inside the house, the atmosphere felt heavy. Her husband, Derek, sat calmly at the table, sipping coffee, while his mother, Linda, avoided eye contact. Emily’s hands trembled as she tried to continue setting the table.
When Richard gently asked what had happened, the answer came—not from Emily, but from Derek. He spoke casually, even dismissively, as if the situation were something insignificant. The tone alone revealed more than words ever could.
