Part 1: A Long-Awaited Visit That Didn’t Go as Planned

I had been looking forward to visiting my son for a long time. He often said, “Mom, you should come anytime,” but those plans rarely became real. So when he finally told me to pick a weekend, I didn’t hesitate.

I prepared everything carefully. I packed thoughtful gifts for the children, chose a simple but elegant blue dress, and made sure every detail reflected how much this visit meant to me. I wanted to feel like I truly belonged in my son’s home.

When I arrived, I was a little early—just fifteen minutes. I stood at the door, fixing my dress and smiling with anticipation. But when my son opened the door, something felt off. Instead of welcoming me warmly, he seemed distracted.

He explained that the house wasn’t ready yet and asked me to wait outside for a few minutes. Though surprised, I agreed. I told myself it was just a small delay.

But as the minutes passed, I could hear laughter, music, and movement inside. It became clear that I wasn’t simply early—I was being kept outside while everything else continued without me.

That realization stayed with me.
