1. A Flight I Will Never Forget
My name is Margaret, and I am 73 years old. Looking back now, I realize that life sometimes brings unexpected blessings during the darkest moments.
Eighteen years ago, I boarded a plane while carrying deep sorrow in my heart. I was traveling home after receiving heartbreaking news about my daughter. The loss had left me feeling completely empty, and the journey felt long and quiet.
I remember sitting in my seat, staring at the back of the chair in front of me. Everything around me felt distant, as if the world had slowed down.
At first, I barely noticed the sound coming from several rows ahead.
But gradually, the noise grew louder.
Two babies were crying.
When I looked closer, I saw that they were sitting in nearby seats with no adult beside them. A little boy and a little girl, both very young, were crying loudly and reaching out as if they were searching for comfort.
Many passengers looked uncomfortable. Some people turned away, unsure what to do. A few flight attendants tried to calm the babies for a moment, but the little ones continued crying.
It was clear that they needed someone to hold them.
The young woman sitting next to me gently touched my arm.
“Someone should help them,” she said softly.
I looked at the babies again. Their faces were red from crying, and their small hands were shaking.
Without thinking too much, I unbuckled my seatbelt and walked toward them.
The moment I reached the row, the little boy leaned toward me immediately. I carefully picked him up, and he rested his head against my shoulder. The little girl reached for me as well, holding tightly to my sweater.
Within seconds, the crying stopped.
The entire cabin became quiet.
I gently rocked the babies and asked the passengers around us if anyone knew their parents.
No one responded.
The young woman who had spoken to me earlier smiled kindly.
“You helped them when they needed it most,” she said.
At that moment, I had no idea how important that simple decision would become.
