Part 3: The Return
Eighteen years passed without any sign of Lauren.
Then one quiet Thursday morning, the doorbell rang.
I opened the door expecting a delivery driver or maybe a neighbor.
Instead, I saw a woman standing there who looked strangely familiar.
It was Lauren.
She looked completely different. Her clothes were expensive, her appearance polished, and her attitude confident.
She walked into the apartment and looked around with visible disappointment.
“You’re still living like this?” she said. “You were supposed to become successful by now.”
Her voice carried across the room.
“Dad, who is it?” Clara asked from the couch.
I hesitated for a moment before answering.
“It’s… your mother.”
The room became silent.
Lauren didn’t come to apologize.
She came with an offer.
She placed two elegant garment bags on the couch. Inside were expensive designer dresses. Then she placed a thick envelope filled with cash on the table.
But the gifts came with a condition.
She wanted the girls to publicly reject me as their father.
In return, she promised them wealth, opportunities, and a life of luxury.
For a moment, Emma held the envelope in her hands, feeling the thick stack of money inside.
Lauren smiled, convinced she had already won.
Then Emma spoke calmly.
“Yes, this is a lot of money,” she said quietly.
Lauren’s smile grew wider.
But Emma continued.
“We’ve never needed it.”
Clara stepped beside her sister.
“Because we already have everything that matters,” she said firmly.
Then Emma opened the envelope and tossed the money into the air.
Bills scattered across the floor.
“We’re not for sale.”
Lauren left furious, gathering her money and expensive dresses before storming out of the apartment.
What she didn’t realize was that the entire conversation had been recorded during a video call with one of Emma’s friends.
Within hours, the video spread online and people began sharing the story of a father who never abandoned his daughters.
Soon after, something incredible happened.
A film production company discovered Emma and Clara’s costume designs online.
They offered both girls scholarships to study costume design professionally.
Today, my daughters design costumes for real film productions.
Yesterday, I watched them carefully adjusting an actress’s outfit on set.
The director turned to me and said with admiration,
“Your daughters are incredibly talented.”
I smiled proudly.
“They always have been.”
Our life is still simple.
Our apartment is still small.
But we built something far more valuable than money.
We built a family.
And when the moment came, my daughters proved something powerful:
Love, loyalty, and sacrifice are things that can never be bought.
