Part 1: Meeting Madame Marguerite
Julien, a 21-year-old student in Marseille, needed a job to pay for rent and university. When he accepted a small job cleaning the house of an elderly lady living alone in a narrow street near the city center, he had no idea how profoundly it would change his life.
The first time he saw Madame Marguerite, he was struck by her fragility: thin, white-haired, hands trembling, each step a struggle. Her home felt frozen in time, filled with old objects, a creaky wooden bed, and the faint smell of the past.
It quickly became clear that this work was more than just cleaning. Julien began cooking for her, buying groceries at the market, and accompanying her to the hospital when she felt unwell. Even though Madame Marguerite never paid him, he kept coming, motivated by compassion rather than money.
