Part 1: When Fear Took Over
It happened faster than we could understand.
One moment, we were enjoying the water, laughing and relaxing. The next, the current shifted beneath us. The waves became stronger, pulling us farther from shore with a force we couldn’t fight.
We were caught in a riptide.
Panic set in almost instantly. The harder we tried to swim back, the more exhausted we became. Every movement felt useless. The shore seemed to drift farther away, and fear took over our thoughts.
It’s hard to explain what that kind of fear feels like—when your body is tiring, your breathing becomes uneven, and you realize you might not make it back on your own.
We called out, hoping someone would hear us.
