Part 2: A Difficult Truth Comes to Light
As Javier knelt down to her level, he noticed how carefully Sofia was holding herself, as if even the smallest movement caused discomfort.
“Where does it hurt?” he asked softly.
“My back,” she whispered. “It hurts all the time.”
She hesitated before continuing, clearly afraid of saying too much. But little by little, her words began to form a picture.
“There was an accident,” she said. “Mom got upset when I spilled juice. I fell and hurt my back. She told me not to tell you… she said things would get worse.”
Javier listened closely, focusing on staying calm so Sofia would feel safe enough to keep speaking. What mattered most in that moment was making sure his daughter felt heard, protected, and supported.
“I’m not mad at you,” he reassured her. “You did the right thing by telling me.”
Sofia finally looked up at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty—but also a small sense of relief.
It was clear she had been carrying this fear alone.
Javier understood that he needed to act carefully and responsibly. Situations involving children require patience, clarity, and the right support systems. His priority was Sofia’s well-being—both physical and emotional.
