Part 1: A Whisper That Changed Everything
Javier Ortega had just returned home from a long business trip. He expected the usual—his daughter running toward him with excitement, laughter filling the house, and the comfort of being back with his family.
Instead, he was met with silence.
As he stood in the hallway, suitcase still in hand, a soft voice reached his ears from behind a partially closed bedroom door.
“Dad… my back hurts so much. I can’t sleep…”
The words were barely audible, fragile and hesitant. Then came another sentence, one that immediately changed everything:
“Mom said I shouldn’t tell you.”
Javier froze.
His heart began to race as he slowly turned toward the room. Inside stood his eight-year-old daughter, Sofia, partially hidden behind the door. Her posture was tense, her gaze fixed downward, as if she were afraid to even meet his eyes.
He approached her gently, keeping his voice calm. “Sofia, sweetheart… I’m here. You can talk to me.”
But instead of running into his arms like she usually did, she stayed still.
That was when Javier realized something was very wrong.
