trump is once again blaming mysterious "vandals" for the mess at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, claiming someone snuck in and sliced a 250 foot gash into the new paint job, but Rep. Ted Lieu just called the lie out directly. Lieu posted that there is a 24/7 camera that shows the reflecting pool, and if someone went into the pool and made a 250 foot gash, it would have been seen, adding that trump is lying again, “Everyone knows it, but the people at the justice department are randomly going after people to soothe trump's fragile ego.”
That's the real story here. If the footage existed, the White House would have already posted it everywhere, because that's what they do whenever they have anything resembling proof. Instead they've offered nothing but vague claims and a handful of arrests, including a 67 year old man who was detained for hours just for touching a loose piece of the peeling coating. Lieu's point lands precisely because it isn't speculation, it's a simple fact about how surveillance at a major national monument works.
This is also not the first time trump has reached for a villain to avoid blame for something his own administration botched. The pool's real problems, the algae and the peeling paint, trace back to a rushed multi million dollar renovation, not some shadowy saboteur with a knife.
