Rowan Mercer was in the middle of a routine workday when his phone rang from an unknown number. At first, he almost ignored it, assuming it was just another unimportant call. But something made him answer—and that decision would change everything.
On the other end of the line was his young son, Micah. His voice was weak, scared, and trembling. He explained that his little sister, Elsie, wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t wake up properly. He also revealed something even more concerning: they hadn’t eaten properly for days, and their mother was nowhere to be found.
Without hesitation, Rowan left everything behind. Meetings, responsibilities, and work no longer mattered. His only focus was reaching his children as quickly as possible. As he drove, his mind raced with worry, trying to understand what could have gone so wrong in such a short time.
