Part 1: Desperation and an Unusual Proposal
The young woman was only twenty years old, living a life shaped by hardship and responsibility. Each morning, she woke before sunrise to work tirelessly on a small farm, caring for animals and doing whatever she could to earn enough for basic necessities. Her hands carried the constant scent of milk and hay, and her clothes were often marked by long days of labor.
At home, the situation was even more difficult. Her mother was seriously ill and required medical care they could not afford. Meanwhile, her father remained imprisoned due to unpaid debts, leaving the family without support or stability. Many nights passed without enough food, and the future seemed uncertain.
One day, a wealthy landowner entered her life with a proposal that would change everything. He was older, confident, and accustomed to being obeyed. Without hesitation, he offered to solve all her family’s problems—he would pay off her father’s debts, arrange for his release, and ensure her mother received proper treatment.
In return, he asked for one thing: marriage and the chance to have a child.
He claimed he had only a year left to live, presenting his request as both urgent and tragic. Faced with limited options and driven by concern for her family, the young woman accepted. She told herself it was a temporary sacrifice for a greater good. After all, she believed his life would soon come to an end, and her family would finally be safe.
The wedding took place quickly and quietly, without celebration or joy. It was less a union of two people and more an agreement shaped by necessity.
